Our 4-Year-Olds always have fun during Jolly Phonics Lessons. This week they learnt a new letter - letter L! In line with our new letter, children made Lions and Lollypops throughout our Art classes.

Hedgehogs enjoyed making Ladybugs out of the apples, honey and raisins. Making ladybugs was fun but children enjoyed eating them even more.

The 7-year-old Cultural Studies class has been exploring the unit “People in the Marketplace.”  We have learned lots of new words such as goods, services, consumer, and producer.  We have seen how many things start out as a raw material and then go through the process of becoming a good that we can buy.  We have discussed “needs and wants” and how that affects what we spend money on.  In addition, we have been exploring many different occupations and learned a song about some.  In the picture, you can see how we played the game “What do you want to be when you’re older?” by acting out different occupations.

As part of our cultural studies unit exploring early monotheistic religions, the 10YO class took a field trip to the Jewish Cultural Museum in Bratislava. The students had a chance to hear about the lives and traditions of Jewish people and see examples of some of their most sacred objects. We also toured St. Martin's Cathedral and spent a little holiday time at the Christmas market. It was a wonderful day of authentic learning and fun.

Excellent 11s- its been an exciting first half of the school year for the 11 year olds.  Along with academics, we have been stressing our Success Orientations.  Responsibility was the orientation of the month so we focused on staying organized, being prepared for quizzes and test, and having all of their supplies and books ready for each class.  The Responsibility Bear for our class was awarded to Yehonatan this month. Each month we focus on a different orientation and award one student in each class a Bear. The month we return from holiday we will focus on Concern for Others. Happy Holidays to all!

In writing 12, students focused on comparing two works of literature we read during the Literature class in November. They analyzed the similarities in theme, conflict, and plot looking for ideas that connect two very different works of Literature.

In Literature 12 we are wrapping up the autumn with a festive flair as we open a new unit on character growth and development. During our final week before the break students in the Literature 12 class read through a dramatized version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Invented songs, funny character voices, and lively conversations about the different ways people "keep Christmas" all over the world added to the fun.

Mr. Plunkett’s Chemistry class recently completed an experiment in which students formed various precipitates (which are solid reaction products). Each pair of students wrote a balanced chemical reaction for their experiment and measured the required amounts of reactants. Following the experiment, the students calculated the limiting reagent for their chemical reaction. This was similar to the procedure used when engineers design chemical reactors to satisfy a desired rate of chemical production.

Concern for others is the success orientation for the month of December. In IB1 Slovak class, students are learning how to write a perfect essay. This was a great opportunity for Secondary 4 student, Oskar, to share his experiences from Canada of learning how to write the perfect essay. Students learned many useful ways of how to write a marvelous essay that will help them succeed to earn the best grade for the IB diploma.

Our elementary classes are starting a new unit called "rhythm," this week of December 10th. Students will develop and practice rhythmic patterns with coordination, social interaction, and self-expression through body movement. In this unit students will learn loco-motor movements like: running, hopping, skipping, and galloping.
