What is the PSG?

The PSG stands for Parent Support Group. If your child attends QSI Chengdu, then you can be a part of the PSG! We are a group of parents who volunteer our time to various tasks, activities, and events at QSI. It is our goal to help teachers and staff wherever needed, as well as to support our children at school. Lack of parental involvement is one of the biggest problem facing schools. Research shows that volunteering at school benefits your child. 86% of the general public believes that support from parents is the most important way to improve the schools.

Decades of research show that when parents are involved students have:

Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates

Better school attendance

Increased motivation, better self-esteem

Lower rates of suspension

Decreased use of drugs and alcohol

Fewer instances of violent behavior

Family participation in education was twice as predictive of students’ academic success as family socioeconomic status. Some of the more intensive programs had effects that were 10 times greater than other factors. The more intensely parents are involved, the more beneficial the achievement effects.

The more parents participate in schooling, in a sustained way, at every level—in advocacy, decision-making and oversight roles, as fund-raisers and boosters, as volunteers and paraprofessionals, and as home teachers—the better for student achievement.

The amount of time you spend volunteering is up to you.  There are many events that take place at QSI throughout the year. We need parents to serve in various ways and at various times. If interested, you can volunteer at school once a week, once a month, or for a single event. Any time you are willing to donate is much needed and much appreciated. There will be emails sent home from time to time detailing when and how volunteers are needed.

If you have any questions, please contact the PSG at psg@cdu.qsi.org.

Thank you!
