Tomorrow TIS will launch our Summer Reading Challenge, whereby students pledge to read a certain number of books over the two months of break.  Studies indicate that students fall behind in their literacy levels during the months of summer as they typically are not engaged in any deep reading or learning.  By just spending a few hours of reading each week, the "summer slide" of skills can be stopped.  Also, let's not forget, that reading is one of the most engaging activities for children and adults alike - so parents should grab a book to take on vacation!

In the fall, TIS will launch a chromebook initiative for students in the 11-13 year old classes.  This project will assign one chromebook to each pupil so that they might have access to educational technology throughout the day.  Teachers have been working to create appropriate guidelines for students so that they won't misuse these tools.  For example, we decided that students should not be on their technology during breaks and lunch so that they might have a chance to socialize with one another.  Tech is great, but only in the proper setting!

Finally, I want to make sure that everyone is aware that this Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 pm, the TIS middle school and elementary students will present Seussical Jr.  This is an event that you don't want to miss.  Find out what happens when Horton hears a Who!

Looking Forward,

Robert S. Jackson

In the three year old class we have introduced yoga time. This is a special time for the children to learn simple yoga poses, stretches and learn how to breathe and relax on a yoga mat. Yoga for children improves body awareness, coordination and attention span.
