Director's Desk

This Saturday, TIS will celebrate the graduation of our 6 Secondary IV students.  This amazing group of young people is finishing up their classes this week in anticipation of the big event, which will take place at 6:00 pm at Tirana International School.  Students, families and community members are all invited to this special event as we honor those that will finish our program this year.

Those families that will be leaving the school at the end of the year are requested to let the front office know what documents your new schools might require.  Please make sure that requests are sent in no later than June 16 so that we might put all of your needed paperwork together in preparation for the last day of school.

Finally, I wanted to invite everyone to a very special parent coffee on June 13.  Carla Grossman, our new Director of Instruction, will be joining us at 8:00 am so that you can welcome her to the community.  Carla will be in town next week to work with the administration as we plan for the next school year.  We look forward to seeing you all in the cafeteria at 8:00 am!

Looking Forward,

Robert S. Jackson

Visiting Artists

The 12 year old had two special guests during art class, Andreas Karlstetter and Shoshana Ahart. Andreas is a technical artist and professor that draws hyper realistic dinosaurs for the Jura Museum in Eichstaett, Germany. His drawings captivate and transport you to another world.  His wife Shoshanna is a painter and art teacher who works with pastels and does beautifully textured landscapes and still life.  Her work is vibrant and breathtaking. They both live and teach in Eichstaett, Germany. They presented to the students some of their artwork and the process of working with chalk pastels, and pencils. Andreas told them about the process of drawing dinosaurs, and how it all begins just the way they create them in the movie Jurassic Park. The 12 year old learned how to draw an archaeopteryx dinosaur by sketching the skeleton structure, adding details like wings, feathers, and muscle tissues. It was very inspiring and a wonderful learning experience for all.

The 7s have been reviewing the phonics skills they have learned throughout the year. They were assigned a project to demonstrate their understanding of a particular skill. Students created a variety of wonderful games, songs, and poems. They presented them to the class for others to play and enjoy.
