Tirana International School (TIS) is a private, nonprofit Preschool–Secondary IV (Grade 12) coeducational, American curriculum, college-preparatory institution with a total of 335+ students enrolled this year. TIS was founded in 1991 by Quality Schools International (QSI) in order to provide a quality education for expatriates living in Tirana, Albania. Parents of our students are primarily employed by governments, large corporations, and NGOs; it is a highly mobile community. A number of Albanian students also attend the school. Students at TIS represent over 30 nationalities with a majority of students coming from the United States of America, Albania, and countries of the European Union.

TIS is fully accredited by The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA). It benefits from QSI's membership in the Association for the Advancement  of International Education (AAIE) and the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) and is affiliated with the U.S. Department of State's Office of Overseas Schools (AOS).

The school follows an American-style college preparatory curriculum. In addition to its scholastic goals, the school endeavors to provide its students with a specialized program, including foreign languages. The school offers a robust Advanced Placement (AP) program with 20 courses offered on a rotational schedule. Students also may take additional AP courses through the QSI Virtual School or other online programs. Mastery of each essential unit is evaluated with an “A” or “B” (mastery grades). “B” represents mastery at a very good level and “A” represents mastery with the student demonstrating noteworthy achievement, particularly in higher order thinking skills. Mediocre or poor work (Cs and Ds) are not accepted, as students are required to engage in each essential unit until they achieve mastery. If a student has mastered a unit with a “B” evaluation, he/she may wish to demonstrate a higher level of mastery to change the evaluation to an “A.” A time period (quarter, semester, term) is not evaluated. Rather, student performance is assessed on each essential unit in which a student is engaged. Typically, a full year course consists of 10 essential units.

The school employs 14 full-time foreign teaching staff, 15 full-time local staff, many part-time teachers and paraprofessionals, and a Director, Director of Instruction, and School Counselor. Many of the foreign-hired staff have Master’s Degrees and have certification as teachers in the US or UK. Many of our part time and local staff have Master’s Degrees.

Students enjoy after-school sports (Soccer, Basketball, Cross-Country Running, Swimming, Volleyball, Karate), musical and theater productions, and various club activities (Robotics, Knowledge Bowl, Model United Nations, Arts Festival, Community Service, Language Clubs). We offer international travel opportunities through CEESA as well as competing in a local international school sports league. After-school vocal music, instrumental music, and language lessons are also available. We become a member of National Honor Society in 2017-18.

Quality Schools International (QSI) is a non-profit school organization that was founded in 1971 with the express purpose of staffing qualified, experienced, and caring teachers in private international schools around the world. QSI has grown to 36 schools in 30 countries spanning five continents.

Tirana International School offers a secondary program that leads to a Secondary School Diploma. Three diplomas are offered by TIS: Academic Diploma, Academic Diploma with Honors, and the General Diploma. The Academic Diploma is a university preparatory course of study. For students to graduate with an Academic Diploma, the minimum requirements are 240 units(Ten QSI Units equal one Carnegie Unit). These units are required to be in the following areas: English—80 units; Mathematics—30 units; Science—30 units;Cultural Studies—40 units; Health and PE—25 units; Languages other than English—20 units; Creative Arts—10 units; with the remaining courses asElectives. The Academic Diploma with Honors is the most advanced diploma offered by TIS. Requirements are the same as the Academic Diploma but with the condition that the credits include at least two AP courses.

CLASS RANK AND GPA Due to the mobility of TIS students, the reality of a small graduating class, and the variety of educational systems from which students come, TIS students’ class rank is not computed. Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated on a 4.0 scale and is unweighted.

Most graduates of TIS attend university upon completion of their studies. Previous graduates have been very successful in obtaining admittance to the colleges and universities of their choice. The first graduating class was in 2001. The following is a list of schools where the graduating students from the past three years received offers of acceptance.
